Curriculum
The curriculum is based on the curriculum used in the Australian state of New South Wales. It provides a balanced combination of direct teaching, enquiry based learning and a strong co-curricular program.
The academic focus is on literacy, numeracy and the creative arts of music and visual art. Our curriculum is always embedded in the local and international context, with adjustments made to take account of our location, and the nationality of our students.
Australia is developing a national curriculum and as this curriculum is implemented, the AISB curriculum will be adapted so that students can attain similar educational outcomes to those of the new Australian curriculum.
Teachers incorporate both the developmental approach to programming (physical/social/ emotional/language/and cognitive) and the six Key Learning Areas (KLA’s) used in Australian schools.
The KLA’s are: English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Creative Arts, Human Society and it’s Environment (HSIE), and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).
Nursery and Kindergarten 1 children work toward age appropriate outcomes based on the KLA’s such as Pre-Mathematics concepts and Pre-Literacy concepts.
Children in Kindergarten 2 work toward many of the outcomes of Early Stage 1 from the NSW Department of Education Syllabus documents.
Years 1, 2 and 3 work in accordance with the New South Wales Education Department syllabus requirements.
This approach ensures a continuum for children’s learning from 18 months to early school age.
